November 3, 2007

Is that James Bond we see walking in through the doors of the Darbe Meher? Well that was the theme of the night in question when ZSBC hosted The Bond Style Dinner and Dance night on November 3, 2007. It was a fun filled event . The decoration and video effects which left everyone in awe was the brain child and creative efforts of Benafsha Kapadia.

The evening started off at around 8 pm with Bingo game with a lot of prizes given away followed by the Fancy Dress show where almost thirty participants (kids and adults) took part with the same jest and vigor. The prizes were distributed in two categories: Winners in Kids category were: Natelli Dalal, Sherezad Dubash, & Aariyana Daruvala. Winners in Adults category were Kazmin Khapoliwala, Freddy& Mahzad Irani and Shireen Panthakee.

Dinner from Bombay Bhel was served at around 9 pm and again it was a grand feast comprising of Kababs with Salad, Butter Chicken, Paneer Makhni, Jeera Rice, Naan, Icecream and Cake. Raffle draws gave away loads of prizes followed by foot tapping and hip rolling music by our very own D.J. Jessi Partovi.

This wonderful night ended at midnight with a promise to bring on more fun filled events again and again. Stay tuned.

ZSBC Board of Directors would like to thank all volunteers and guests for their support and gusto.

Gatha Prayers 2007

August 15-19, 2007

The Gatha prayers this year set some kind of record in the history of ZSBC both in terms of attendance and the number of Mobeds who prayed at the same time. We were delighted to receive the services of Ervad Soli Dastur & his wife JoAnn who came down from Sarasota, USA at his own expense to perform all the five days of prayers. Ervad Soli was joined by Mobed Jamshid Jamshidi & Mobed Firdos Balsara on some of the days. We thank all three mobeds for their magnificent recital of prayers and giving us all a truly spiritual awakening. ZSBC marked a history on second gatha when three priests performed jashan ceremony praying together.

Vast crowds thronged the Darbe-Mehr on all the five days with people standing outside the prayer hall due to lack of space inside. Humbandagi prayers were recited everyday with members joining in enthusiastically. Delicious food cooked and sponsored by various members was served on all five days. On the fifth gatha Ervad Soli Dastur gave a powerpoint presentation on the jashan ceremony with English translations which was very much appreciated by everybody particularly by our young children and youths. We thank Sam Behramfram for arranging the wide screen and projector for the presentation. If you missed the presentation go to the internet using the links below:

You will also need an .mpg video file for the Hama Zor greeting enactment within the PowerPoint Presentation:

We are very grateful to Kashmira Suraliwalla & her mother Roda Elavia for the arrangement and co-ordination of the prayers & food as well as providing accommodation to Ervad Soli & JoAnn Dastur. We are also grateful to tons of volunteers who gave their time in cooking food, general arrangements, giving ride to seniors etc. Due to constraints of space we are unable to acknowledge you individually but please accept our heartfelt thanks to you all.

Pictures of all five days of prayers can be seen on the links below:

2006 Events

Masquerade Ball
November 4, 2006

Kudos for ZSBC Board of Directors and volunteers for organizing such a spectacular event on November 4, 2006 at Darbe Mehr. Over a 100 people attended the function. The Darbe Mehr hall looked very "Spooktacular". Mr. Spooky the scary mannequin that offered chocolates and candies greeted the guests. Thanks to the efforts of the event organizers. The evening began with Bingo game where cash prizes were distributed. The virgin punch bar served various fruit cocktails like Mango Tango, Berrylicious, Blue Lagoon and Scorpio Poison with chips and nibblers.

Over 38 participants took part in Fancy Dress competition judged by our prominent guests Bella Tata, Homi Italia and Firdos Balsara. Our youngest participants Princess - Anahita Dadinath and Unicorn - Eva Bhathena won the consolation prizes. The winners were Zerxes Bhathena - Battered Husband (first prize), Zain Mavalvala and Farhad Mistry - Patient & Doctor (second prize) and Jennifer Daruvala - Cat Woman (third prize).

Bombay Bhel catered the tantalizing menu of Seekh Kabab, Chicken Curry, Paneer Makhanwala, Jeera Rice, Naan, Salad and green chutney. Samosas and bean salad were also served.

Farrokh Namdaran and Koomi Italia were celebrating their birthday that day. They were surprised by a cake cutting ceremony. Everybody enjoyed the delicious Black Forest Cake.

We appreciate the tremendous effort put in by the Socials Director, Jessi Partovi, who was also the DJ for the night for sponsoring the light and music free of cost. The young and the old danced the night away till midnight.

All that was heard from the guests were praises and repeated requests to hold many such events. Last but not the least; all this was not possible without the support of many volunteers who helped make this event to be one of the greatest parties of the year. Hold on your hearts friends, more such events are coming.

September 12, 2006

This year the event was organised at Mahon Park in North Vancouver and turned out to be yet another success for ZSBC. Our Ex-President Perviz Madon gave the trophies away.

All the participants up to 10 years of age were distributed gifts irrespective of being a winner or not to encourage them to participate in Sports events in future. All other winners were distributed certificates by present ZSBC Board of Directors. Participation for fun events like Tug O War, Wheel Barrow race and 3-legged races was galore. One of our youngest members Eva Bhathena was felicitated for her enthusiasm to participate in all races be it for kids, youth or adults. She showed great gusto to just be there.

A total of $187 was collected as voluntary participation fees during this event. This event would not be a success without dedication of numerous volunteers who put in their time and effort. Thank you to all for your support and participation.
